Ryan Freeland

Vice-President

Profession:

Sports Architect, Sports Studio Design Leader at JLG Architects

Bio:

Ryan grew up in Minnesota where he found hockey 'late', lacing up his skates for the first time in the third grade, but never looked back. Ryan has played and coached with some of the top tier talent coming out of Minnesota. Ryan's passion for hockey and growing the sport comes from being a first generation hockey player within his family, understanding what is involved in entering a sport that was relatively unknown. Ryan looks to make hockey more accessible at an entry level, while elevating the level of skill development and performance throughout AYHA and the greater region of southeastern Wisconsin.

Ryan has been a part of AYHA since landing in Wisconsin in 2018. For the last 4 years, Ryan has served as a head coach at the Mini/Mite Level, serving as the Mite Level Director for the last couple years and will be co-leading the squirt level this upcoming season. As a father of three, his youngest being a 2020 birth year, Ryan will be around AYHA and youth hockey for many years to come and looks forward to helping grow the organization and passion for the sport within the community.

To Ryan, hockey is the ultimate t.e.a.m sport - T.ogether E.veryone A.chieves M.ore. It is a sport that teaches adversity, self-confidence, compete and sportsmanship, unlike any other sport. He looks forward to continuing to instil these values throughout our players, coaches, and families of AYHA.

Bio:

Brandon grew up in Duluth MN playing youth hockey For West Duluth (Irving Park, Duluth Optimist’s, Duluth VFW)

He was selected to play in the MN Selects showcase by the MN coaches association for three years of youth hockey. In High school he changed directions and focused on Football and Springboard Diving. Springboard diving is where he excelled. From there Brandon spent time in Account management with Quad Graphics (West Allis, WI) and Nahan Printing (St. Cloud, MN) before returning to school for Computer Science, and ending up at WE Energies.

Brandon returned to the Ice in his early 20’s after running into old teammates while visiting his parents in Duluth. Those teammates talked him into playing in the High School Alumni game for Denfeld HS (a team he never played for…) Since that time hockey has been a major part of his life. He still skates with that same group of guys at least once a year.

Brandon has two boys in the AYHA System (Myles – 11, Abram – 8). He has been an assistant coach for the last four seasons coaching both boys’ teams. Brandon is a firm believer in team sports being a huge component in children’s overall development both mentally and physically. He hopes to be a contributing part of this development for as many youth athletes as he can.

Jerrod Showers

Director

Profession:

Regional Engineering Director – Food Supply Chain, Target

Bio:

Jerrod is a lifelong hockey player and will always have a passion for the game. Jerrod has enjoyed playing hockey since he was three years old, but as his children have become of age to play, he has found a passion coaching and helping younger players to develop their skills as well. Jerrod played youth hockey in the Madison area through High School where he was a 4 year letter winner.

Jerrod believes his commitment to sports helped him learn the importance of hard work and to be able to see the rewards of what that hard work can bring in terms of results. Jerrod has three daughters coming up through the program (AYHA/LCW) and is excited that he can contribute to the program to ensure all our youth players have a great experience.

Since 2019, when Jerrod’s oldest daughter started in the sport, he has had the chance to be able to coach all three of his daughters, and was excited to be part of the coaching staff to take LCW 12u team to a state championship! As he has coached, and been able to get closer to the “ins and outs” of the AYHA, he realized that he could apply his passion for the game, development of our players along with the skills he uses in my profession to organize, align and move teams toward a common goal.

Jerrod’s goal is to not only build better hockey players, but better humans as well......as there are many life lessons to be learned through participation in sports.
